Our team at the Old Barn Coffee Shop have been busy once again preparing and sending out some special treats to residents in our local community.
Around 50 senior citizens in Bagby, Balk and Osgoodby have received an afternoon tea box from the café, filled with a selection of homemade goodies.
The idea of sending out afternoon tea boxes for local senior citizens came about last year after the coffee shop was unable to host the Bagby and Balk Village Society’s Christmas dinner for senior citizens. We’d hosted it the year before to great success, serving guests a sit-down meal and providing live music for entertainment.
But as Christmas 2020 approached, Covid restrictions put paid to plans for hosting the event again. Our wonderful team decided instead to make boxes filled with delicious treats, which were handed out to local elderly residents by members of the village society.
The initiative was such a success that we decided to do it again to mark Christmas 2021, especially as there were still concerns about Covid and groups of people gathering together.
Thanks go to our coffee shop team of Claire, Isobel, Katie and Juliet for preparing the boxes, and to society members Debbie, Carol, Julie, Cath, Lucy, Ella and Katie for handing them out. The boxes were filled with a selection of homemade afternoon tea treats comprising four finger sandwiches, a slice of cheese quiche, a sausage roll, a slice of Victoria sponge, a slice of lemon drizzle, a slice of chocolate fudge cake, and a sweet scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream.
The Old Barn Coffee Shop is currently open Friday to Sunday from 10am to 3.30pm, offering its Winter Menu which includes a range of homemade dishes and baked treats.
