We are absolutely delighted to announce that the Old Barn Coffee Shop has been shortlisted in not one, not two, but three categories of the Herriot Awards 2019!
The café, located at the entrance to York House Holiday Park, has been named as a finalist in the Tearoom of the Year, Customer Service Team of the Year and Baked Product of the Year categories.
We are so proud of our amazing team at the coffee shop, who do such a great job giving our customers a warm welcome and offering a selection of delicious freshly-made food and drink. Each one of them is friendly, motivated and full of enthusiasm!
Our menu focuses on quality over quantity, using uses locally-sourced ingredients wherever possible. Fruit and vegetables, for example, come from Carl’s Fruit and Veg at Mount Pleasant Farm just down the road. We also cater to the growing demand for gluten and dairy free products.
All our baking is done by Claire Batson, our coffee shop supervisor, who has been making cakes since she was little. Folllowing a career in financial services and HR, she has returned to her passion for baking and now enjoys her ‘retirement’ at the Old Barn!
Claire’s cakes are certainly a hit with customers, and we’re over the moon that they have been recognised by the Herriot Awards judges who have shortlisted our best-selling lemon drizzle cake and lemon and blueberry scones in the Baked Product category.
We’re now looking forward to the awards ceremony on December 2nd, and to meeting all the other fantastic finalists. The Flavours of Herriot Country Awards are one of the most highly recognised and respected food and drink awards in Yorkshire and celebrate the best in food and drink throughout ‘Herriot Country’ – an area stretching across Hambleton and Richmondshire.
Entries are judged by an independent team of highly experienced and respected food and drink experts. This year’s awards ceremony will be presented by Elly Fiorentini of BBC Radio York.
